SAMUEL PRESTON, son of ISAAC and SARAH WILEY, was born July l2, l864, near Dubuque, Iowa, and died at his residence near High Point, Decatur County, Iowa, April 8, l925. He was the sixth child in a family of ten children. The only surviving member, WILSON D., resides near Indianola, Iowa. The family moved to Decatur County in June, l869, where on the old homestead the deceased maintained a residence for more than 50 years. March 9, l898 his marriage to ESTELLA BEAVERS COWDEN was solemnized. To them two children were born, MARTHA COY, who died at the age of l4 years and MAURICE, of White City, Kansas, whose son, KENNETH NELSON, is the only grandchild. The wife died Nov. l4, l904. March 3, l908 his marriage to SUSAN BATT, of Grant City, Mo., reconstituted his home. To this union four children were born; HORACE, MILDRED and EMMETT with the mother survive. The youngest child passing away in infancy. As a farmer and raiser of live stock, MR. WILEY was devoted and successful. Long years of residence in a single community proved him always a kind neighbor and a sympathetic and helpful friend.
His public spirit was exhibited in his services for 4 years as a member of the County Board of Supervisors where his devotion made him well and favorably known in every township. In his home he was constant in sustaining his full share of the responsibilities the conjugal relation involved. Always a faithful husband and kind father. It may be said of him as of another who lived worthily, "None but his children could know the torrents of tenderness that flowed from his heart." His departure was sudden. He will be greatly missed. He lived well. To his neighbors, to his friends and to his family his memory will be increasingly precious.
The funeral was conducted Friday, April l0th from the late residence, by the Rev. Carl Brown, of Garden Grove. Interment taking place in the High Point Cemetery.
