Frank Bates move from So. Dakota to Oregon, 1891

Extraction from THE PLAINDEALER newspaper, Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon, December 3, 1891.

CAME IN FROM DAKOTA
Some more sensible people have arrived in Roseburg. Mr. Frank Bates, wife and child and Mr. Brundage, wife and 2 children have left the blizzard-swept prairies of South Dakota for the comfort and enjoyment of Southern Oregon. They left the town of St. Lawrence, Hand County, on the 17th inst. and report good sleighing and a specimen of weather touching twenty below zero.

Mr. Brundage intends locating in Roseburg to engage in the cattle and meat business. Mr. Bates will buy a ranch or a fruit farm in the vicinity. They have rented houses and will remain in the city during the winter. Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Brundage are sisters of Mrs. Patterson, wife of Fred Patterson, the enterprising mason and contractor, and it is altogether likely that to him is due the credit for bringing his brothers-in-law to this section.
