I am trying to find information on my maternal grandfather. All I know is the my grandfather's name is Russell Howard Bates born September 2, 1920. His mother's name is Mary Lou Bates. I do not know his father's name or his mother's maiden name.
I also know a few siblings: Martin, Donald, Jean, Jo (maybe short for Joane or something), Carrie, Frank, Mary Elizabeth, and Tom. Jean and Jo are both girls and twins. I believe there were 16 or so kids in all. Also, the oldest brother whose name I don't know came back from WWI or WWII with PTSD and shot and killed his brother-in-law, Carrie's husband, and then turned the gun on himself.
As far as I know, most, if not all, of the kids were born in Jenkins, KY, then the family moved to Wise, VA. I know that a few years ago, I found what may have been his brother Martin still living in Wise.
My grandfather Russell married Lydia Margaret Rife and had three girls: Wanda, Diana, and Nancy.
I cannot find anything on him or any of his family or his marriage. I don't even know if he is living or not.
If anyone can find any info on this family, I would much appreciate it.
